Me Time: Here’s Why It Matters And How To Make It Happen

Focusing on yourself in never a bad idea — here’s why

It’s a fast-paced world. The pressure of being left behind is tremendous — one that forces you to work your socks off for long hours every day in order to make a decent living. As if earning your bread wasn’t stressful enough, family commitments and socialising with friends take up whatever little time there’s left in the mere twenty-four hours available in a day.

And that is a problem. While we try and keep up all that’s around us, we forget to look after something that matters the most — our health, and our happiness. Sometimes, we’re so caught up in trying to please people that we find solace in that. Other times, we ignore our needs because we assume it’ll be deemed selfish. But we’re here to tell you that pampering yourself every now and then isn’t selfish at all. In fact, it’s extremely important to de-stress frequently if you want to stay hale and healthy as you get nigh on old age. If you’re someone who’s looking to do just that, here are two excellent ways to go about it.

Everyday Stress Busters

If you feel like you need to recharge after a long day or week at work, your room could be your best bet. It’s your personal space bubble — away from the problems and issues of everything around you. Put your phone on silent mode and lock the doors. Hang some fairy lights, light a scented candle, put on some music you love, and do what you know you’ll enjoy. Read a book, perhaps, or watch a nice movie. You could also watch a sport or play some video games. All you need is some food and water at arm’s length, and you’re good to go!

Occasional Relaxants

Spend a day in your bathrobe just pampering yourself. Pedicure, manicure, whatever you like. Binge watch movies or TV shows, order food from your favourite restaurant, and dig in. If you don’t own a television or a comfortable couch, Rentomojo has great options that could come in handy — check them out here.

If you’re someone who hates being indoors, then pack your bags and step out. Go on a solo trek. Drive down to the next town and explore it completely. If you’re feeling adventurous, rent a motorbike or a bicycle and explore your own. And oh, if you can afford it, head to a spa and get a facial and a massage.

Whether you’re a people person or an introvert, it’s imperative to look after yourself once in a while — especially if you want to live a long and healthy life. Do you have any more ideas that you can add to the list? Let us know by commenting below!

  1. Life goes by at a really active rhythm, among the busy events and active work it is important to find time to rest so as not to burn out and recover in a timely manner. CBD was an amazing opportunity for me to relax and gain strength
