While everybody out there is busy wondering what women want (and stereotyping a lot in the process), we got a whiff of a fresh concept created for the women, by the women.

Thank God I’m Female (TGIF), an event crafted by Startups In Sync, a venture started by Stylebank, TGIF saw women from different business fields, coming together to create entrepreneurial history. The event brought together eight startups under one roof to facilitate fruitful interactions between women from across Bangalore.

“We wanted to do something that would foster alliances between multiple start-ups and leverage the power of combined reach, marketing effort, database, and effort. That’s how the initiative Startups In Sync was born.” –  says Bhavna Suresh, Co-Founder, StyleBank, recognizing the lack of startup collaboration activities in India.

TGIF served as a perfect solution to bridge the gap. Over 75 young ladies, targeted through an assessment of the 8 startups’ common target group, were a part of the event held at the YourStory office. They arrived in Uber cabs and stepped into a setup of curated solid wood furniture from Rentomojo. The leisurely evening went on and could clearly be seen as women lounged on the comfy bean bags and stools. Making the most of an entire evening of pampering, they spent their time trying out gorgeous clothes & jewellery, hand-picked by StyleBank and BlueStone respectively. Getting their hair and makeup done by beauty experts from Housejoy was a perk, unexpected, but welcome! Oh My Goodness and Eatfresh, the food and beverage partners, ensured that snack time was a blast for everyone present.

“The women here tonight are all part of a target demographic that we (StyleBank) and the other startups are trying to capture. Most importantly, they are women who are open to and customers of on-demand and access economy services and products, ” says Aina Barker, Co-Founder, StyleBank.

Well, we for one are glad that an initiative like came along to empower women in startups! Here’s to the entire TGIF team & to all you women out there.
